Macky’s Potty Party!

This plan scaffolds her step by step from pooping in a pull-up while standing in the bathroom to confidently pooping on the potty without a pull-up.

Key Adjustments for Macky:

  • No more pooping outside the bathroom. She can stand or sit, but all pooping happens in the Potty Party Room (downstairs half-bathroom).

  • Pull-ups are only for pooping and are kept in a basket inside the bathroom.

  • Macky has three poop times per day (based on her body’s natural schedule).

  • She earns stars at each poop time based on effort and participation.

Step 1: Pooping in the Bathroom

Goal: Move all pooping to the Potty Party Room, but let Macky choose how.

How to Set It Up:

Decorate the bathroom to make it fun

  • “Macky’s Potty Party!” sign on the door.

  • Big Kid Poop Poster: “Poop Goes in the Potty!”

  • Star Chart on the wall to track her progress.

  • Potty Basket with special books, toys, and bubbles (only for potty time).

Give her two options for pooping:

  1. Stand in the bathroom while pooping in a pull-up.

  2. Sit on the little potty or big potty while wearing a pull-up.

Three daily poop times to earn stars

  • Morning (30-45 minutes after waking up)

  • After breakfast or lunch

  • Before bath/bedtime

What NOT to Do:
✖ No more pooping outside the bathroom (gently remind her).
✖ No asking, “Do you need to poop?” Just say, “It’s Poop Party time!”
✖ No forcing her to sit—standing in the bathroom still counts as progress!

How Macky Earns a Star:

Pooping in the bathroom (standing or sitting).
Using her Potty Basket items while she poops.
Pooping during one of her three poop times.

First Reward (5 Stars Earned):

Step 2: Pooping While Sitting on the Potty in a Pull-Up

Goal: Get Macky used to sitting while pooping in her pull-up.

How to Encourage It:

✔ Keep letting her choose where to sit—little potty, big potty, or standing.
✔ Offer a fun Potty Basket item while she sits.
✔ Make sitting a normal part of poop time (“You can sit while you play with bubbles!”).

What NOT to Do:
✖ Don’t rush this step—if she resists, let her stand a little longer before trying again.
✖ No pressure to remove the pull-up yet.

How Macky Earns a Star:

Sitting on the potty while pooping in a pull-up.
Pooping during one of her three poop times.
Trying to stay seated for at least 2 minutes.

Second Reward (7 Stars Earned):

Step 3: Pooping Directly in the Potty

Goal: Transition Macky to pooping without a pull-up on the potty.

How to Encourage It:

✔ Offer, “Do you want to try without your pull-up today?”
✔ Let her flush her poop and say goodbye (many kids love this part!).
✔ Keep the potty fun and routine-based.

What NOT to Do:
✖ No forcing—if she hesitates, let her go back to the "sitting pull-up" for a few more days.
✖ No over-celebrating—keep it low-key and normal.

How Macky Earns a Star:

Pooping in the potty without a pull-up.
Staying seated and relaxed while pooping.

Final Reward (10 Stars Earned): 🎉 Macky’s Potty Party Celebration! 🎉

  • A special outing (ice cream, zoo, a favorite place she picks!).

Macky’s Daily Poop Routine

Action Step for You (Parents):

Celebrate effort, not just results.
Poop time = fun time. Keep it playful & routine-based.

How to Support Macky Without Pushing

Use “When-Then” Statements

  • “When you poop in the potty, then you can flush and say goodbye to it.”

  • “When you’re done, then we’ll wash hands and do a silly dance.”

Offer Control, Not Demands

  • “Do you want to sit on the big potty or the little potty?”

  • “Do you want your diaper tight or loose today?”

Let Her Have Privacy if She Wants

  • Some kids prefer to poop alone—ask if she wants you to stay or step out.

Keep It Playful and Fun

  • Use her Potty Basket to make sitting time relaxing.

  • Blow bubbles while she sits—this actually helps her relax her pelvic muscles.

Praise Effort, Not Just Success

  • “I love that you sat on the potty!”

  • “You tried something new today—awesome!”
